Type: Social Media Animation (Student Project)
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, Live Action Footage
Overview:
This university brief challenged students to integrate animated vector artwork into real-world footage for a social media campaign. My concept brought the iconic McDonald’s Big Mac to life, not as a meal, but as a mischievous character.
Creative Approach:
Originally envisioned as a burger walking out of the restaurant, the story evolved due to filming constraints. The final concept flipped the script: the burger became the pursuer, humorously chasing a human through the scene, a playful take on hunger and temptation.
The animation process involved:
– Designing layered vector artwork of the burger character with exaggerated rhythm and bounce
– Filming live-action footage with precise camera angles, lighting, and reflections in mind
– Compositing and syncing the character into real environments using After Effects
– Creating seamless transitions and interactive motion between animation and video
Outcome:
The result is a fast-paced, whimsical short where the Big Mac becomes an unlikely antihero. The piece demonstrates technical skill in compositing, timing, and character animation, with a dose of humour and brand playfulness.
